The hoisting of the giant-sized national flag in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam’s 27th National Day celebration took place this morning at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation’s Open area in Bandar Seri Begawan. The ceremony marked the start of the country’s National Day anniversary celebration. With the hoisting of the giant-sized national flag, the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam are urged to hoist the national flag as a symbol of their loyalty to the monarch and nation.

Officiating at the function was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Haji Awang Hazair. The function began with the reading of the Surah Al-Fatihah and doa selamat.

The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohammad Hamid in his speech stressed that the national flag-hoisting ceremony is in-line with the national flag’s function as a symbol of the existence and sovereignty of a country as well as identity, solidarity and unity of a nation. He added that the rakyat and residents in the country should honour the national flag. Meanwhile, love for the country is something that should be possessed by every individual in the country. He explained that if one does not have a feeling of love for one’s own country, it is the same as a refugee who is only there temporarily. Therefore, one who loves their country will feel proud of their own country.
