BIBD was presented with the Online Banking Initiative Award for Brunei at the Asian Banking and Finance Awards 2013, on the 18th of July 2013, at a ceremony held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore, which was attended by nearly 200 senior bankers.
On hand to receive the award was Dr Gyorgy Ladics, Chief Operating Officer of BIBD. He commented that this award underscores all the great strides BIBD has been making over the previous years with their technological advancements and their never ending foray into better digital financial solutions.
BIBD was chosen by a panel made up of Dominic Nixon from PwC, Egidio Zarrella from KPMG, Mohit Mehrotra from Deloitte Consulting, Liew Nam Soon from Ernst and Young Advisory LLP, and Andrew Pitcher from Accenture. Now in its seventh year, Asian Banking and Finance magazine annually honours and recognizes the best of the best in the Banking and Finance industry.
The BIBD online banking initiative is highlighted by two of BIBD’s flagship digital channels, BIBD Online and BIBD Mobile, with the latter being a mobile application alternative to the online service. The holistic upgrade to BIBD’s online banking initiative also included the upgrade of BIBD’s core banking system, the introduction of an advanced online banking system, implementation of new front end systems for branches, revamp of BIBD’s new Contact Centre and the re-launching of the BIBD home page, just to name a few.
The main objective of these upgrades is to provide comprehensive banking services on the customers’ smartphones and tablets. BIBD became the first in the country in launching mobile banking services to establish and maintain their market leading position as they offer innovative and simple mobile banking services, which imminently provides an alternative real time channel for performing transactions, on top of BIBD’s Contact Centre and branch outlets.
Furthermore, BIBD has also introduced the BIBD ‘Hadiah Plus’ loyalty program, allowing for the accumulation of BIBD debit and credit card rewards for instant redemption of ‘Hadiah points’, which can be redeemed for prizes such as Royal Skies miles.
BIBD’s latest addition to its digital solutions, BIBD’s eTunai, allows for digital cash or ‘Hadiah Points’ to be accumulated, to be used for payments via QR codes through terminals at selected merchants. This further reduces the need for physical cash as digital cash payments can be made through smartphones and tablets via the BIBD Mobile application.
