Plastic, paper and scrap metals are being sought after especially now in the period between the 15th and the 25th of May. Why the urgent need for these waste materials? A group of civil servants called the Green Apeel are trying to get to the core of environmental issues as they try to attract the attention of the public through artistically designed recycle bins to increase environmental awareness. They are also trying to raise funds for YASKA, a foundation for children with cancer by converting those recyclable items collected into cash.
As part of the whole recycle for charity campaign, The GreenArt team of the Green Apeel held a recycle drive on Sunday, the 18th of May, 2014 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Parking Lot B from 9AM to 5PM. The aim is to collect 1000kg in 10 days and the recycle drive is one of the ways, the Brunei public can help achieve that goal. The event was received very well allowing them to reach more than the target goal all thanks to Bruneians who have participated. The recycle drive campaign and the artsy bins are sponsored by JASTRE, BIBD AT-TAMWIL, DAIKYO Environmental Recycling Sdn Bhd and D’Sunlit Sdn. Bhd.
The Green Apeel is still accepting more recyclables until the 25th of May and the team deeply encourages more Bruneians to participate. The artsy bins which are designed by Ariff Suhaimi, Ahmad Zukhairi and Zaim Zairi are currently located in Times Square and Yayasan Shopping Complex.
